Bicycle maintenance clinic
Want to know more about your bike - whether that be how top mend a puncture, or true up a wobbly wheel, how to adjust those disc brakes, or what you need to know to guarantee that you finish your triathlon - we have designed a variety of teaching clinics to enable you to learn more about your bike and help make you a better rider through understanding your bike’s capabilities.


Our clinics fall into three categories: Beginner, Intermediate, and Specific.

 

Beginner’s clinic
Would you like to learn how to make basic repairs, or are you a new or an inexperienced cyclist ? This is a great workshop to learn everything from lubing a chain, to fixing a flat tyre and understanding how to make minor adjustments to your gears & brakes, we will also show you how to identify problems requiring professional attention, and talk through the key parts that will require routine maintenance to ensure long and trouble free cycling.
The clinics are usually around 2 to 3 hours, and will involve a mixture of hands-on work and discussion. All tools and equipment will be provided, this clinic is limited to 6 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment.


Price for this course is £5, but included in the price is a free innovations puncture repair kit.

 

Intermediate clinic
You will already be familiar with the basic elements of bike maintenance - this clinic will focus on more specific maintenance and repair topics, this will typically include items such as how to adjust headsets, bottom brackets, wheel truing, brake adjustment and gear adjustment, including fitting new cables and fine tuning front and rear mechanisms
The clinic is usually around 4 hours, and will involve a mixture of hands-on work and discussion. All tools and equipment will be provided, this clinic is limited to 4 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Please download our newsletter for the next clinic dates.


Price for this course is £20, for which you will also receive a free copy of the fabulous ‘Big Blue Book Of Bicycle Repair’ from Park Tool worth £17.99 - this book provides easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions for keeping any road or mountain bike running smoothly, and is packed with hundreds of photos.

 

Specific

Road Side Repair This evening held class covers the very basics of repairing your bike on the road. Our aim is to include most of the key repairs that strand people at the roadside.

You will learn how to:

  • Fix a flat tyre
  • Fix a broken chain
  • Make a minor adjustment to your shifting & brakes
  • Know what tools and parts to carry with you on your bike

The clinic is usually no more than 2 hours, the price for this course is free, however this clinic is limited to 6 people maximum, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

 

Triathlon Race Ready

Your triathlon bike requires constant and regular maintenance to preserve its mechanical capabilities and prevent problems.
Our experience is that the majority of expensive repairs and mechanical issues are due to a lack of maintenance and basic pre-race inspection.
With this in mind, we have a triathlon specific clinic designed to help you maintain your bike.
We will cover :

  • What you need to bring with you on every ride.
  • How to prevent flat tyres and dropped chains.
  • How to remove and replace quick release wheels
  • How to repair a flat tyre – quickly !
  • How to fix a dropped chain.
  • Other handy and essential ride safety & survival tips.

  • Price for this course is £15, for which you will also receive a free Park Tool I-Beam Fold Up Mini Tool worth £12.99 - this tool features a variety of hex wrenches, and a straight blade screwdriver. This is a great lightweight tool for taking on the road


Biking 4 Women
We have designed this clinic to provide the A to Z for any women new to cycling, or for those who just want to brush up on their skills, or who are planning on hitting the road or off-road trails this summer for the first time.
In this clinic, we will also show you how to do basic bicycle repairs including fixing a flat tyre, lubing your chain, and making some basic adjustments, all guaranteed to keep you safe and on the road.
During the clinic we will cover :

  • How to chose a bike : Proportion, Anatomy, Power to weight
  • Bike anatomy
  • Mounting & dismounting your bike – clips, pedals and emergency stops
  • Shifting
  • Cornering
  • Cadence, climbing and descending
  • What to wear - clothing, helmets & saddles
  • Nutrition
  • Basic road repairs & tuning
  • Planning a ride with friends

The clinic is usually around 4 hours, and will involve a mixture of hands-on work, discussion and lots of fun. All equipment will be provided, this clinic is limited to 6 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Price for this course is £20, for which you will also receive a free pair of Body Geometry Bike Gloves, worth £15. These gloves have been specifically designed for women and include a stitched Body Geometry gel pad, designed to reduce hand numbness.

 

Groups, Clubs, Schools & Teams

Do you belong to a school, a club, a triathlon team, or cycle with a group of friends ?
If you can't make it to one of our 559Active clinics, then maybe we can come to you. We will provide all the tools and work stands, and teach your group whatever elements of cycle maintenance and repair you want.
